Ranger (December 2025)

Special Needs Male Golden Retriever

Meet Ranger, a very sweet 7-year-old boy who lost his home through no fault of his own.  His family had a new baby and found themselves overwhelmed by the responsibilities of a dog and a newborn.

Ranger is a special needs dog as he is nearly, though not completely, blind.  We think his vision is like that of the cartoon character Mr. Magoo (am I dating myself?).  He learned to navigate our home in about two days and no longer bumps into walls or furniture.  We are teaching him guiding commands like step down, step up, left, right, back up to help him navigate.

This boy is as sweet as they come.  He loves affection although he doesn’t demand it.  He loves to carry a plush toy in his mouth everywhere he goes. He does not like to go on walks but enjoys car rides.  He prefers to sleep on the bed with his humans, but we are training him to use his own bed.  He is a very sound sleeper and there is no moving him once he is settled!

Ranger would do best in a ranch style home as stairs would be difficult for him to negotiate.  He is fine with low energy dogs but my neighbors”s high energy lab really spooked him.  He ignores my cat.  A quiet atmosphere would probably be best for him.his handsome active boy is a typical young golden retriever. He’s as sweet as they come and loves to snuggle.
