Male
Wynter is a 7-year old Cream golden retriever.
He has a cataract in his right eye that he receives drops for. We were
informed that he had one previously in his left eye which liquified.
The hope is that the right one will liquify too. He does struggle with
his sight and will need time to get acclimated to his surroundings.
Potential sight limitations have been noticed
when he tries to find his ball he took outside and when he descends the
stairs. He is motivated by treats and food and is quick at learning
what is asked of him when training with treats. We have worked with him
on taking treats gently and waiting for his food and meal time. He and
our other golden play well together. With some dogs he has been the
alpha and may try to intimidate but with our golden who has never been
the alpha dog, Wynter lets him lead in play. He loves his belly rubbed
and to be close to his human and would benefit from having family home
all day. He is not good with young children when he has treats, so he
would benefit from a home with teens or older he also should not be in a home with cats.
He needs a little work on his leash but does well for the limited time
that he is on one. He has traveled over three hours in the car and
does fine. He is not the most relaxed dog, but he tends to lay down the
entire time. He has claimed a space behind my office desk as his den
and prefers time to chill alone. He tends to sleep there, but will jump
into bed in the morning to be petted and wakes me up by laying his head
across my neck. He will lay on the couch by his human as long as he is
petted. He likes bones, balls, and small toys. He frequently has a
ball in his mouth. He has made so much progress in learning to be in a
home with humans and adjusting to pet life. He came from Turkey after living in a shelter for over a year.
